How to make a memorial candle

This DIY project is a great gift for someone who has lost a loved one.

The main objective of this project is to put a printed photo, and or a poem, onto a candle with wax paper, however, if you wish you can also add embellishments such as rhinestones to the candle using Elmer’s glue.

The following instructional steps will explain how to make a memorial candle.

1. Choose a photo of the departed loved one, and type up a memorial poem to have ready for the candle after this cut a piece of white tissue paper a bit larger than your printer paper. Fold the tissue paper over the printer paper and tape down the excess tissue paper down onto the back of the printer paper.

2. Place the paper you made into your printer with the right side up or down for printing, depending on how your printer works. Set your printer paper properties on transparency for optimal results.

3.Remove the tissue paper from the printer paper and trim your image with scissors to remove the background from a photo if needed. We recommend you do this if the photo has a dark background.

4.Place the printed photo and or poem onto your pillar candle ink side up.

5.Take a piece of wax paper (larger than your candle) and wrap it around your candle, with the wax side touching the tissue paper. Use the excess wax paper as a place to grab on to, you can then later cut the excess wax paper after you are finished.

6. Use a heating tool, candle lighter or torch lighter to gently heat the wax paper, so it melts over your photo. Please make sure your wax paper has extra length to allow you to pull the paper tight so it lays smoothly on the candle, you can also use rubber bands to hold the paper in place, to help make sure the wax paper is wrapped around the candle tight as possible to avoid bubbles and wrinkles.

7. When the wax paper starts to melt, you will see the image appear through the paper, stop heating once you can clearly see the whole photo/written poem, and slowly peel the wax paper away from the candle.

8. If there are any noticeable bits of wax sticking up, use your finger to lightly pat down or wipe it away.
